4th Cornish Cheese Show 2011

Preparations for the 4th Cornish Cheese Show are underway.  The judges have been invited and the invitations to the cheese producers are about to do out.

This year we are hoping to enhance the cheese tasting sessions by including one at Lostwithiel Local Produce Market on the Friday so that another collection of people can taste the class winners cheeses and choose their favourite.

Also on the Saturday afternoon the shop will close at 2 pm, with a quick move round and open again for the Trade Tasting sessions which we have not run before.  All producers will have the opportunity to be present and talk about their cheeses, an order book will be to hand and tasters of Cornish wines, ciders and juices will be available as well as accompaniments chosen by those doing the tastings.

This is a first for us and we need all the help we can gather to contact all the establishments who would like to use a Cornish Cheese Board and do not know how to find the necessary cheeses to their liking.  Cheese Shops as well.  Please contact us and ask for an invite.

The dates.

  • Judging will take place on the 6th October at the NFU Conference Rooms in Liskeard.
  • The cheese tasting days are the 13th/14th/15th October in the Taste Cornwall Shop in Liskeard.
  • Also at Lostwithiel Local Produce Market on the 14th October.
  • On Saturday 15th October the Taste Cornwall Shop will close at 2 pm and reopen asap for the Trading Tasting sessions and the awards for the cheese judging will be presented by Mr. Phil Ugalde who is Patron of CGOS as well as MD of Proper Cornish and Furniss of Cornwall and Chairman of the Cornwall Food and Drink Group.

Liskeard Show

As part of the CGOS Taste Cornwall will be attending the Liskeard Show on the 9th July. We will be in the Food Marquee and will be sharing a stand with the Cornish Guild of Smallholders members along with Made in Cornwall.

Why not come along and say hello, it would be great to see you there.

Shop Talk

The Taste Cornwall shop in Liskeard is working with a specialist commercial training company to provide work-based training for their staff.  This initiative by Emily Simpson, the Taste Cornwall shop manager is designed to provide all the staff with the skills to provide superb service for their customers and to help them in their day to day work.  So, in an area where this shop is seen to be a leader and the present customer service is seen with some envy, Emily and her team are taking yet another step forward.

The training sessions have started and all looks very positive.  You never know, some of those involved may wish to share their experiences with you.

Well Done Emily and well done the Taste Cornwall shop team.

Celwyn Richardson  CGOS Management Committee Secretary
